10 Steps to Maximizing Your Wardrobe: Steps 5 & 6

Here we are, it's week 3 of my 5 part series and FREE eguide, 10 Steps to Maximizing Your Wardrobe, and I'm really enjoying sharing these tips with you guys and reading your emails and testimonials!  We're getting closer and closer to completing the series and this week I'm sharing tips around colors, patterns, and recycling.
If you're new to the blog or just learning of this series, make sure you check out steps 1 & 2 and steps 3 & 4 to get up to date!  Now that we have that out of the way, let's dive right in . . . . .

Step 5:  Color vs Pattern Pairing

If you're like me, you're instantly attracted and drawn in by colorful patterns and crazy print combinations.  While they're fascinating and bold, they're also very distinct and easily recognizable which means you can't repeat them very often.  Translation, wear it once and wear it well because you'll need to retire it to your closet for quite sometime before you can pull it out again, lol.

Because of this, I recommend that you resort to color pairing vs pattern pairing.  By color pairing you can mix and match looks with ease.  Consider pairing your favorite blue button up with a fuchsia skirt or your chic black pantsuit with a red statement bag and heel.  Great color combinations give you an instant chic factor and are a great way to both, save money and get the most out of your wardrobe.

Step 6:  Recycle Formal & Semi-Formal Looks

In the back of your closet, I'm sure you already have some great pieces that can be recycled and restyled into something spectacular.  One of my key secrets to creating unique looks is this very thing.  Take that old two-piece bridesmaid combo and wear the skirt with your favorite tee or blouse.  And for those slim fit dresses, add your favorite blazer or jewel toned top to create something fresh and new.  There are endless possibilities of what you can do by recycling looks.  It's all up to your imagination!

Be sure to stay tuned next week for the simplest, yet chicest styling tip of all.

  1. I NEED this blog post in my life. Just 3 weeks ago I started the process of revamping my wardrobe after realizing I had allowed myself to become frumpy because I was so busy doing everything except taking a look at myself. Can't wait to start putting some of this into action. Love your color choices and style!

  2. I am enjoying all your wardrobe tips! I love that last picture of you with the blue skirt and polka dot shirt! I found this app called "Stylebook". You can upload pictures of all the pieces of your wardrobe, and then combine the pictures to create outfits, then schedule them on a calendar. I haven't gotten around to making a lot of outfit combinations yet, but now I'm really itching to look at new ways to wear my old pieces!
