First Day of Spring + Charleston Fashion Week

Thursday marked the first day of spring and I decided to GO BRIGHT!  I was in Charleston, SC to celebrate the launch of my Charleston style brand, Charleston Street Style in addition to the attending the runway shows for fashion week.  The look I went with was inspired by my love of spring and colorful hues.  I wanted to pair a color combo that would be different from what I've done before - green, one of my favorite colors, and pink, something girly and feminine.

I had an awesome time visiting the Belk style tent and stopped for a quick pose on the grounds by the featured Porshe!

I even ran into and got the chance to chat shoe style with the one and only Steve Madden!  His shoes were featured in the Belk tent and I had the chance to preview many of his soon to be released styles.

My favorite is the neon STS, available for pre-order HERE.

Shopping with Elle (Jewelry TV)

With the launch of Charleston Street Style, of course my day was full . . . . but I couldn't visit the city (Charleston, that is) without a Shopping with Elle post.  Luckily, I didn't have to go far!  On the grounds of Marion Square where Charleston Fashion Week is hosted inside the media tent I ran into the team from Jewelry TV and loved their set up inside the tents.  They were so informative and helpful in selecting pieces and even offering on the spot styling for several of the models.

I really enjoyed how interactive and media savvy the brand is considering that they provided each of us with iPad's that took us through a brief questionnaire/survey to determine our individual style of jewelry.  My results classified me as a Brilliant Bombshell . . . why of course, lol.

While browsing the tent with my Charleston Street Style Ambassador, Alden deHart Halviland (pictured on the left) we met the lovely Whitney Rife, fashion blogger at The Retail Therapist!  I just love how colorful we all were!

Some of my favorites from this brand are their amazing bracelets - my personal favorites are the Red and Black Crystal Gold Tone Koi Fish Bangle + Cabochon Gold over Bronze Stretch Bracelet.  They're both reasonably priced at $39.99 and $59.99 respectively.  Paired together they make for some great arm candy!

Happy St Patrick's Day!

Happy Monday and Happy St Patrick's Day!  Although it's a gloomy day here in Charlotte, NC there's still plenty to smile and be happy for.  Me personally, I'm always happy for stylish clothes and shoes, lol.  Due to the nasty weather, I decided not to get dressed up and play outside today, but did want to share some green inspiration with you from earlier (thank God for weather forecasts - lol)!

It's my take on vintage.  As most of you know, I do not claim to be a thrifter, but I do know a great deal when I spot it!  I located this vintage mint dress about 9 months ago and it was love at first sight.  It's unlike any other vintage piece I've seen before and for that I had to have it.  The color itself is a rare find and I paired it with my favorite gold sequins belt to give a little definition to the waist., Kate Spade accessories, and Irregular Choice shoes.  Hope you enjoy my take on green and have a wonderful week!

Sarah Jessica Parker for Nordstrom

To go-to gal for style and more notably shoes, Sarah Jessica Parker, aka Carrie Bradshaw, recently launched an exclusive collection titled SJP for Nordstrom!  We've watched her in our homes and on the big screen for years in the critically acclaimed Sex and the City and we now can share in her style and love of all things fashion with this new collection.  The collection, designed by Parker and George Malkemum III, chief executive at Manolo Blahnik, who SJP notoriously wore during her several years of Sex and the City, includes 25 styles ranging in price from $195 - 485.  Infusing her personal style and signature, SJP named each shoe after fashion icons, family member, and friends, and each shoe has a grosgrain ribbon on the back, in remembrance of the ribbons SJP wore in her hair as a child.

Standout to the collection is the "Carrie" shoe (retails for $355) which I prefer in purple.  “It’s that feminine, ladylike thing, but there’s something kind of naughty and irrepressible and inappropriate,” she said of the shoe." - SJP

  • “Carrie is obviously one of my favorite people, and this is an ode to her. It's a strong shoe that can be worn for day and night. I love the way the strap dips down the front of the foot, accentuating the length of the leg and the delicacy of each strap. All of the details and the gorgeous grosgrain down the back combine to make it deserving of its namesake.”
    -Sarah Jessica Parker

Inspired by the beloved character Carrie Bradshaw—a name synonymous with style— this sophisticated T-strap pump flaunts a ladylike, forever-classic silhouette. A bit of delicate grosgrain ribbon trim pays tribute to designer Sarah Jessica Parker's favorite childhood adornment while providing a signature finishing touch.
    • 3 1/2" heel (size 37).
    • Adjustable strap with buckle closure.
    • Leather upper, lining and sole.
    • By SJP; made in Italy.

"Maud" Sandal (retails $375)

  • “I'm so thrilled with the way this shoe developed. It’s no secret this shoe is inspired by the great Maud Frizon. I imagine so many nights spent in this fun, flirty style; the colors demand to be seen and the shoe is longing for an adventure. I love the idea of using multiple colors, simple colors, to create a more unique neutral. It's a shoe that can go with such a variety of colors and even patterns. And I'm so pleased with how soft the weave feels on the foot."
    -Sarah Jessica Parker

A multihued profusion of delicately interwoven strips lends fashionable finesse to the peep toe of a breezy sandal with a slim, wraparound ankle strap.
    • 3 1/4" heel (size 37).
    • Adjustable strap with buckle closure.
    • Leather upper/textile lining/leather sole.
    • By SJP; made in Italy.

"Manhattan" Grosgain Trim Skirted Trench Coat (retails $495)

"I love that we were able to do this trench. I'm so pleased with its femininity and its practicality. I love the piped panels, the detail and use of the grosgrain. And I'm so pleased with the fit, perhaps most important of all!”
-Sarah Jessica Parker

From style icon Sarah Jessica Parker, a double-breasted trench accentuates its feminine and graceful lines with tonal grosgrain trim and shiny goldtone buttons.
  • 39 1/4" length (size 4).
  • Two-button closure.
  • Flap pockets.
  • Fully lined.
  • 100% cotton.
  • Dry clean.
  • By SJP; imported.

Candy Crush . . . . Christian Louboutin

Today's post was inspired by the constant flood requests I receiving continually to play the, oh-so-addicting game, Candy Crush.  While I have not subcombed to phenom that is Candy Crush, it did provide great inspiration!  With the onset of spring I'm eager to pull out my collection of pastels and candy-hued tones.  Not only do I showcase these in my dresses and separates collection, but also via SHOES . . . . . enter the infamous "Red Bottoms"!

Pictured are just a few of my favorite spring selections: Pigalle Spikes 120mm + Cataclou 140mm + So Kate Booty 100mm

Shopping with Elle (Kate Spade part two)

Part two of my style adventure at the new Kate Spade in SouthPark is all about black and white!  If you followed my last Shopping with Elle post I featured the beautiful Roset dress, but I failed (or should I say delayed) to show off the additional look I fell in love with . . . . the Hana dress (retails for $398)!

This simplistic black and white design features a cap sleeve and patch pockets in front with a straight design.  The beauty of this piece is it's simple, yet skillful design.  It's a colorblock, less the vivid bright colors . . . I LOVE IT!

This piece is currently hanging in my closet and I can't wait to wear it - that'll be another post, coming soon!

In surfing additional colors I came across this fresh, yellow take on the Hana dress, and I love it too!

Normally, I post dressing room pics of me trying the garments for my Shopping with Elle posts, but somehow, I magically deleted the pic of me in this dress, so please check back soon for when I wear the dress out!  It'll be worth the wait, I promise!  And as always, here are my tips when shopping for looks:

Remember these key points when shopping:  Always, always, always wear comfortable and loose fitting clothing.  You'll be changing multiple times and the easier it is to get out of your clothing (and put it back on) the more apt you'll be to enjoy the experience and try on more.  Secondly, my rule of thumb is to wear (or bring along) a pair of heels so that you can see the potential of the look when trying options.  Lastly, and as a former boutique owner, the store's will LOVE you for this, wear little to no makeup (I wear only a light gloss or lip balm when shopping).  Let's not stain or dirty the garments before we get them home, or even for the person after you should it not make the final cut.

If The Shoe Fits . . . . STRUT

Tonight was the VIP Viewing at Off Broadway Shoes Concord Mills and of course I was game to attend!  Not only to attend and cover the event for my pro-blog, Charlotte Street Style, but to see what new goodies I could find for ME!  The event was very blogger/media friendly as many of the buyers, social media director, and even public relations firm were onsite to speak more in depth about the store renovations and products within.  Upon entering, I was immediately greeted with gifts and smiles . . . . BAM (yes, I'm hype about that - as you all know, I shop every week so any discount, prize pack, t-shirt, etc is greatly appreciated)

I took the time to browse the store and in doing so, I bumped into Lourdes, Accessories Buyer, and she gave me a full tour of the new accessories displays and the designers within.  It wasn't until our conversation was coming to a close that I came across this AMAZING Jessica Simpson bag that can be carried as a clutch or shoulder bag in a fuschia and gold pattern . . . . . ooohhh, aaaahhh (say it with me, lol).  I'm in love with it, and it very well may make an appearance in the near future.  Now on to the shoes . . . . .

I didn't have time to properly photograph tonight's looks, but hopefully this will do.  I paired my favorite Ellen Tracy tweed blazer available at Nordstrom's with a silver & black fit and flare skirt from Apostrophe, lavender fitted top, and last but not least my favorite Mia Hawthorne pump in black (a steal at only $34.99 - also available in nude) from Off Broadway Shoes, of course!

This shoe, the Julez by Jessica Simpson, ended up being my shoe pick of the night for my pro-blog, Charlotte Street Style, and for me personally.  The bright spring colors are to die for and I cannot wait to rock these in a future post!  They come in a variety of colors as you can see and I'm currently leaning towards the yellow!

This lady right here . . . . coincidentally named Belle (isn't that neat, Belle meets Elle) was giving off some major style tonight.  I immediately gravitated towards her and her adorable look - it probably didn't hurt that she's into social media as well, because as y'all know, that's my thing!

Be sure to check out pics from the event HERE and check out the peak-a-boo action Belle's top gives from the back . . . . HEY!

Who's That Girl

As spring draws near I find myself in an endless search of fab wears via "stalking" designer and boutique websites for inspiration (yes, I too need inspiration from time to time).  In search of some stylish spring wears, I came across this Alice McCall dress that I absolutely LOVE.  It's vintage floral pattern with contrasting black contouring pattern gives off a very mod vibe.

The white shoe and purse are the perfect compliment considering how strong the black accents are, and don't forget the cat eye shade!  It takes me back to the movie featuring Madonna . . . . Who's That Girl!

STYLE STORY: Spring Anticipation

I developed this look based around this beautiful Michaelangelo apricot iridescent maxi skirt, which I've had for several months, but never pulled it out of my closet (dumb me!). I spent all evening in my closet, while on the phone with my best friend, fishing for a top or blouse to pair with this unique skirt and just when I had given up, I discovered a tub of clothing out in my garage. You'd think that I would remember placing it there, but I don't, matter of fact, I found 2 tubs full of clothing that I'd forgotten about. Turns out, I discovered an eggplant iridescent peplum top that was a perfect match (or should I say perfect, once I matched it with my favorite gold sequins belt to add a little sparkle to the already existing shimmer). Granted it’s a Thursday, and I’m sure the onlookers where wondering why I was so dressed up at mid-day, but hey, that’s what this blog is about ..... like I always say, "the only way to dress, is UP".

STYLE STORY: Strutting in Blue

What started as an infactuation with being fancy, years later, has evolved into a thriving business centered around fashion and style. Often times, I'm asked about my style influences, favorite colors, and key wardrobe pieces. To that I respond . . . it varies. My style is usually dependent on my mood for that day and how I feel, it's just that simple. Equipped with an Eva & Zoe Papeete Gray bootie/pump, I began rumaging through my closet (and tubs of clothing - don't judge me) for a sexy and sleek look. As you can see, based on my final wardrobe selection, that plan changed. While I knew the pumps were an absolute must, I deviated from the original look after I located this free flowing and oh-so colorful maxi skirt I picked up during a clearance sale, designer unknown. Considering the super high split in the middle, I opted to tone it down with a collared sheer blue blouse with black piping from Elle VJ (of course!). After pairing these findings, I absolutely fell in love with the combination. Now on to accessories, certainly didn't want anything that would overpower the look, so I opted for a pair of oval shaped bright yellow earrings. Extra you might think . . . of course it is! Is that not the point of dressing up, so that you can be noticed. YES! As I walked through the streets of downtown Rock Hill, I felt liberated as my skirt billowed creating a sea of watercolors anchored by the solid blue blouse. I guess you could say my overall mood for the day was that of the peek-a-boo game we all grew to learn and love during childhood. With the "peek" of a leg here and there, and the sexiness of a sheer blouse as I strutted through town, my overall mood was . . . . . I'm sexy and I know it (lol).

Shopping with Elle (Kate Spade)

While breezing through SouthPark Mall in search of a birthday gift for my daughter's 10th birthday, I came across the new Kate Spade store and immediately fell in love with her designs.  The layout of the store itself is a whimsical wonderland of colorful hues, modern tones, and retail regalia.

In passing, I came across this fushia dress perfectly named Roset (item NJMU3269 - $448) that is a fit and flare design with pockets and a bow detail on the back.  The color is listed as boganvilea (673) and is one of the most fanciful shades of pink that I've seen to date.  It's a perfect look for a spring/summer wedding . . . . too bad I don't have one to attend.

The dress is actually one size too large and the upper portion of the dress will require tailoring for a perfect fit, but the silhouette is amazing!

These shoes sent me into a frenzy!  Have you ever seen anything so gorgeous.  The floral print is absolutely perfect - not too bold, and the perfect complimenting shades for the selected dress.

Kate Spade: Lilia Pump - $328
