STYLE STORY: Black + Garnet

This past weekend I enjoyed celebrating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, in particular, attending Roc Da Runway, a hair and fashion show produced annually by a friend of mine.  As an added bonus, my Atlanta "inner circle", i.e Cynthia Bailey and "The Bailey Boys" came down, as Cynthia was the celebrity host.
I actually went through two looks before deciding on this black and garnet collaboration, but I'm pleased with the final look.  I've actually had this garnet dress with black faux leather sleeves for several weeks but couldn't decide how to wear it (it's actually an Elle VJ Boutique dress that I stocked and ordered just before the years end).  I knew I wanted a sleek and city chic look so I decided to pair it with a black cape with a high collar that I've had for years, and years (about 3+).  Finally, because the dress and cape were solids, I of course wanted to add a dash of sexy by spicing up the shoe!  Something sexy, something fabulous, something fierce . .. . . drumroll . . . . enter these pony haired ankle pumps that are to die for!

STYLE STORY: Peachy Queen

I believe that there's absolutely nothing wrong with being a little extra at times.  Well, this would be one of those times, lol.  For a few years now, I've had this beautiful Parisian peach coat with fur details on the collar and sleeves that I got from Paris.  Because it's a show stopper, I intentionally hadn't worn it out in hopes of landing the perfect attire to compliment it.  It wasn't until recently, as in a few days ago, that I was able to pair it perfectly for a themed shoot I like to call Peachy Queen.  I all honesty, I probably could have paired a look with this beauty quite some time ago, but for whatever reason I didn't.  I think the wait was definitely worth my while - the purple/orange/black snake print I choose worked out wonderfully.  Not to mention the purple and orange snake skin shoes that completely set the look off.  Extra - YES, show stopping - YES, made you look - of course I did, lol.

30 Days of LOVE

Today marks the 30 day countdown until Valentine's Day (or Single Awarenes Day for us single folks).  This year I'm putting a twist on it, and instead of stressing over whether of not you have a Valentine, let's celebrate our love of fashion and style.  For the next 30 days leading up to February 14th, I'll post daily style inspiration, style boards, and photos all centered around the theme of LOVE via my blog and social media accounts.  Join in the fun and let's showcase #30daysofLOVE

STYLE STORY: Panther's Pride

So today the Carolina Panthers took on the San Francisco 49ers here in Charlotte and the entire city was buzzing with black and blue fever.  I too decided to join in the fun and support the home team, after all I am a Charlotte native (one of the few).  Of course I wasn't going to get suited in a jersey and jeans, so I decided to put a "glam" twist on the black and blue "get up".

STYLE STORY: Tis The Season

Welp, it's the Saturday before Christmas and before family and friends begin to arrive, I thought I'd take a moment to share my holiday look (and no, it's not red).  It's a very rare occasion that I wear any red, so I lent my styling efforts to create a blue ensemble for this year's holiday post.

Because I'm so extra (at times), it's virtually impossible for me to find a complete look in one store.  Initially this look started with the purse (teal) and the shoes (silver with satin finish and sequin encrusted), both found on clearance at DSW (collections: Lulu Townsend and The Glass Slipper Collection respectively).  As usual, during one of my closet rummages, I located this beautiful blue watercolor feathered skirt I purchased from NY and Co. while in Miami last summer and paired with an Elle VJ tiered blue tank top.  The closing piece to this ensemble is a blue crop jacket with rhinestone trim I picked up during a random stop at a local thrift store (no, I do not thrift, but I do enjoy a great buy from time to time).

I ended up wearing this ensemble to an HIV awareness fashion event in Charlotte and it went over great.  As is the case with most events that I attend, I may have been a little overdressed, but isn't that the purpose of attending a stellar event . . . . to stand out.  After all, my brand mantra is: "the only way to dress is UP".

Again, I very rarely wear red, but this blue does come off as festive and merry.  I'm so eager and excited to see my family and friends during this holiday season and more importantly seeing all the stylish looks.  Follow along on social media and check out the official hash tag #ElleVJ.

Happy Holidays!
